Extension to the Mill Hotel, Chester

Client:  The Mill Hotel & Spa

Architect:   Johnson Robson Ltd

January 2015 to December 2015

A further negotiated contract with The Mill Hotel involved the construction of a single storey steel framed extension across the entire Hotel frontage, faced with aluminium double glazed curtain walling, oak cladding and Falzinc metal sheet fascias.

The works created a new bin store, extension to the existing kitchen and fire exits, new Ladies W.C, new entrance lobby, new cloakroom and new ‘Rialto’ wine and dine area.

Internal alterations converted the former Ladies W.C into a new beer cellar, the former NW beer cellar converted into a new kitchen and ‘deli’ counter, and Nr 48 Milton Street (the end terrace) into two bedsits.

Externally, a new paved terrace and enclosed seating area has been created, along with the re-formed tarmac car park with new drainage, kerbing and lighting.

To enable the Hotel to remain open for the complete duration of the works, we produced a three-phase programme that identified how temporary access for Hotel residents, staff and deliveries could be achieved and maintained, while carrying out the works safely.  A temporary fire escape plan for each phase was also agreed with Building Control and the Fire Officer.
